Hiding Under Your Bed

The Midnight Game

Sunday, September 4, 2011

All of use remember the urban legend of Bloody Mary. Just a scary little game that kids play  at slumber parties. Well if you're interested in that sort of thing here's a game that's popped up on the internet that you may be willing to try. The Midnight Game.

“The Midnight Game” is an old pagan ritual used mainly as punishment for those who have broken the laws of the pagan religion in question. While it is mainly used as a scare tactic to not disobey the gods, there is still a very real chance of death to those who play the Midnight Game and there is an even higher chance of permanent mental scarring. It is highly recommended that you DO NOT PLAY THE MIDNIGHT GAME.
For those few thrill seekers searching for a rush or for those delving into obscure occult rituals, these are the simple instructions on how to play. Do so at your own risk.

INSTRUCTIONS

PREREQUISITES: It must be exactly 12:00 AM when you begin performing the ritual, otherwise it will not work. The materials that are required include a candle, a wooden door, at least one drop of your own blood, a piece of paper, matches or a lighter, and salt. If you are playing with multiple people, they will all need their own of the aforementioned materials and will have to perform the steps below separately.

STEP ONE: Write your full name (first, middle, and last) on a piece of paper and put at least one drop of blood on the paper. Allow it to soak in.

STEP TWO: Turn off all the lights in the house. Go to your front door, which must be wooden, and place the paper with your name in front of it. Now, take the candle and light it. Place the candle on top of the paper with your name.

STEP THREE: Knock on your own door 22 times (The hour MUST be 12:00 AM upon the final knock), then open the door, blow out the candle, and close the door. You have just allowed the “Midnight Man” into your home.

STEP FOUR: Immediately relight your candle.

This is where the game begins. You must now lurk around your now completely dark house with the lit candle in hand. Your goal is to avoid the Midnight Man at all costs until exactly 3:33 AM. Should your candle ever go out, it is because the Midnight Man is near you. You must relight the candle within the next ten seconds. If you are unsuccessful in relighting the candle, you must then immediately surround yourself with a circle of salt.
If you are unsuccessful in both of these, the Midnight Man will then induce a hallucination of your greatest fear until 3:33 AM. If you are successful in relighting the candle, then you may proceed. If you are successful in creating the circle of salt, you must remain within the circle until 3:33 AM. You must continue until 3:33 AM without being attacked by the Midnight Man or being trapped within the circle of salt to win the Midnight Game. The Midnight Man will then leave at 3:33 AM and you will be safe to proceed with your morning.

Staying in one spot the entire game will only result in the Midnight Man finding you. It is HIGHLY advised that you continue moving throughout the game.

DO NOT turn on any lights during the Midnight Game.

DO NOT use a flashlight during the Midnight Game.

DO NOT go to sleep during the Midnight Game.

DO NOT use another person’s blood on your name.

DO NOT use a lighter to substitute for a candle. It will not work.

AND DEFINITELY DO NOT attempt to provoke the Midnight Man in ANY WAY.

That is all. Have fun.

Chupacabra?

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

You've heard of El Chupacabra right? Legendary goat sucking beast of Mexico and the states? Well it may of been captured by hospital workers recently after people came in asking what the strange creature outside was. The hospital staff them captured and filmed the animal using leftover chicken and Chinese food.

Uh, sorry guys, but that just looks like a small dog with a very bad case of mange to me. Video with more footage of the animal in the links.

Bodies of Everest

Monday, August 15, 2011

This one is less of a mystery and more of a horror. Currently there are nearly 200 human bodies on Mt Everest that are used as landmarks for those that are climbing the mountain. This is mostly due to the extreme temperature, weather and altitude that a person must face while climbing the mountain. Sometimes the temperatures are so extreme on the mountain that instant frostbite to any exposed flesh is a very real possibility. That coupled with high altitudes and the many other dangers makes climbing the mountain a very dangerous act. Those who perish on the mountain while making their ascent are often left behind due to the fact that rescue or recovery of their body would be nearly impossible and very dangerous to even attempt.

Sometimes climbers will even come cross people who are still alive, but because they have no way to help them they have no choice but to leave them to die. Two climbers once found a woman that was dying along on the mountain. She called out to them and said "please, don't leave me!" But the climbers were forced to continue as staying would mean risking their own lives and they had no way to help the woman. They continues climbing and had to leave the woman to die. They spent the next eight years saving up money to return and give the woman a proper burial.

Hella Cool- Abandoned Morgues

Friday, August 12, 2011

Any abandoned place is always a source of interest to me. To see the levels of decay is fascinating, especially in places were it's like the people just up and left never to return. Buildings can be abandoned for a number of reasons, mostly due to lack of funds. Here's a link to a slideshow of some cool abandoned morgues: [link]

Rosalia Lombardo: Little Sleeping Beauty

Saturday, August 6, 2011

While this may be a morbid topic (when do i ever avoid those?) I couldn't help but want to post this due to the fact that it's rather beautiful in a strange way. Forgive me me for posting such old topics, but i'm here to inform. Not to update. :)

Rosalia Lombardo was an Italian child born in the year 1918 in Palermo, Sicily. When she was only two years old she died of pneumonia on December 6, 1920. Her father was so grieved by her death that he contacted a noted embalmer, Alfredo Salafia and asked him to preserve her. Her body was one of the last few to enter the Capuchin Catacombs.

Photo of Rosalia's corpse in 1995
This wonderful state of preservation was achieved by a formula concocted by the embalmer, Alfredo. Until recently the formula was thought to be lost, but a handwritten memoir was discovered that contained the recipe for the formula. The preservation method used formalin, alcohol, glycerin, salicylic acid, and zinc salts. These were mixed together in a liquid and then used to replace the girls blood. X-rays showed that her internal organs were very well preserved and were all intact.
Until recently Rosalia was kept in a glass covered coffin at the end of the catacomb tour. Recent photos show that her body is starting to show signs of decay, the most prominent being discoloration. Her body has been moved back into the catacombs alongside the bodies of two other children.

The Green Children of Woolpit

The Green Children of Woolpit is an interesting story coming from the village of Woolpit located in Suffolk, England. The story takes place during the 12th century, sometime during the reign of King Stephen. No one is quite sure if the story is true or not, but it is sill a interesting story all the same.

Sign erected in 1977
The story starts when two children, a brother and a sister, are found in pits dug to trap wolves. The children were normal in appearance except for the fact that their skin was a shade of green and they spoke a language that none of the villagers had heard before. The children were taken back to the village to be cared for but they wouldn't eat any of the food that the villagers brought them. They didn't eat for the first few days until someone brought them green beans. The children lived off of the beans untill they eventually learned to eat normal food.
Source
Eventually the brother of the two, who was apparently the youngest, got sick and died. But the girl remained perfectly healthy, was baptized and raised by the people in the village. As the girl grew the green color in her skin eventually faded away. When she was older she learned to speak english and was able to tell the villagers of the place that she and her brother came from.
The girl claimed that she came from a place of perpetual twilight called Saint Martin's land. She told the villagers that Saint Martin's land was found underground and that all the people there were green just as she was when she was younger. She recalled that she and her brother had wandered off and were not able to find the way back to their home after being dazed by the strong sunlight.
As for her life in the village, the girl adjusted well and eventually married though she was apparently "rather loose and wonton in her conduct." (Er...skanky?) If this story is true or not remains to be seen, but it still makes for one interesting story.
